A new survey finds annoying junk calls are still a big problem for anyone with a telephone.
Kris Kicks, head of marketing for CPR Call Blocker, which did the survey, says robocalls are number one on the list, however, “nuisance calls of all kinds are really continuing to be a problem.” Kicks says robocalls and automated messages were listed in the survey by 66 percent of responders.
The survey showed 32 percent of the respondents said that they get 20 or more calls a month, and 18 percent say they receive 30 or more.
He says many people have signed up to the Do Not Call list, both at the state level and the national level.
“The callers are simply not listening, and that is what is really a problem.”
New Jersey lawmakers have considered prosecuting telemarketers under fraud laws.
The second-most nuisance call — credit card and loan arrangers — were listed by 28 percent of the survey respondents.
No. 3 on the list was charitable calls and appeals from causes, followed by long distance phone company sales pitches.
About 10 percent complained about lottery or sweepstakes calls.
Kicks says despite the Do Not Call list, the robocalls keep coming.
“They can involve a lot of out-of-state scams and out-of-country scams as well.”
Kicks says call-blocking technology can help by stopping the calls before the phone rings.
